Thai Round Eggplant: Same Species as Purple
Thai Round Eggplant · มะเขือเปราะ · Solanum melongena
Thai Round Eggplant — มะเขือเปราะ (ma-khuea pro) — Solanum melongena.
Thai round eggplant — mah-kuea praw — the bitter, golf-ball-sized fruit Thais eat raw with chili dip, plus how to cook it and what one study measured. The fruit is the part you eat. One early clinical study used an infusion from a different eggplant cultivar and saw a small, short-lived dip in cholesterol. The tested cultivar differed from this Thai variety.
For Thai round eggplant nutrition, the fruit brings manganese, fiber, and potassium. Its manganese is a trace mineral your body uses to build bone, release energy from food, and run its antioxidant enzymes. The fiber behind that raw crunch adds bulk, slows digestion, and helps you feel full. Potassium is the fruit's main electrolyte, tied to fluid balance and normal muscle and nerve signaling.
In Thai green curry, quartered eggplants soften in coconut milk and curry paste, then land over hot steamed jasmine rice. Jungle curry skips the coconut: sliced eggplants boil in a spicy herbal broth with fingerroot, chilies, and holy basil, cooled by cucumber and rice. It's the same species as the big purple eggplant, just bred small and firm for Thai kitchens. Follow Longevity Biome for a new Thai plant every day.
