Mulberry Leaf Softened a Post-Meal Sugar Spike

Mulberry · หม่อน · Morus alba

Mulberry — หม่อน (mon) — Morus alba.

Mulberry — mon. Its blood-sugar effect comes from the leaf. In one controlled trial, a concentrated mulberry-leaf extract softened the after-meal glucose rise in adults with impaired blood sugar. The edible part is the berry, and it carries vitamin C, iron, and vitamin K. The vitamin C in mulberries helps your body build collagen and acts as an antioxidant that protects your cells. Their iron sits at the center of hemoglobin, the protein that carries oxygen through your blood. Their vitamin K helps your blood clot normally and works with calcium to keep bones strong. Tom Gai Baan Bai Mon is a chicken soup finished with fresh mulberry leaves and herbs like lemongrass, served with jasmine rice. Cha Bai Mon is tea made from young mulberry leaves, blanched, then roasted dry before steeping, and served warm with Thai sweets. The young leaves are edible too, usually cooked as a green, and the berries' vitamin C helps your body absorb plant-based iron. Because concentrated mulberry-leaf products can affect blood sugar, ask your doctor before combining them with glucose-lowering medication. Prune hard to a low framework each winter for a bigger crop within reach. Follow Longevity Biome for a new Thai plant every day.
